Window Supply Company raises over £2000 with virtual Cycle from Lapland

West Lothian based window and door manufacturers Window Supply Company (WSC) have pedalled 2117 miles - the equivalent of cycling from Lapland to Whitburn – on stationary bikes raising vital funds for The Whitburn Community Development Trust.

The Whitburn Community Development Trust, a charity based in the local community where the company’s head office and manufacturing facility is based, does incredible work and the funds raised will support The Community Support Hub, The Community Fridge and the Community Garden as well as the children’s annual galaday.

The charity fundraiser began on Monday 2nd of December and saw the team pedal from Lapland through Sweden, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, ferried across the North Sea to Hull and then homeward bound to Scotland. The event finished on December 20th with the team of Directors taking the glory to pedal the final 5 miles home on Day 15.

Over 70 members of Team WSC participated in the event which sparked fierce competition throughout the company’s head office and trade counter locations - despite the considerable pain caused by the bike seats. Stand out performers were Laura Scally, Key Accounts (most miles completed) and Deborah Hall, Marketing (most miles completed in one day) taking the crown for the girls.

Those taking part also included the Whitburn FCA 2009’s, the local boys football team the company sponsors, as well as key customers Mark Graham, Bridgeview Scotland and Derek Smith, Smiths Windows & Doors. Industry suppliers also contributed racking up the miles notably Liniar’s Nigel Bishop, Clayton Glass’s Lisa Sturrock, and Kubu’s Ian Bould.

As part of the initiative Team WSC also collected nonperishable food items, personal care products and household cleaning items to support local food banks in their trade counter communities in Lincoln, Manchester, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Livingston, Bellshill, Kilmarnock, Dundee, Aberdeen, and Inverness.

Deborah Hall, Marketing Manager, Window Supply Company says: ‘We want to take this opportunity to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their generosity in supporting our charity cycle. It’s fantastic to support a charity which directly impacts my hometown. The work the Whitburn Community Development Trust does is crucial in providing vital services for the local community. Whilst the services offered by the Trust have increased phenomenally over the years, funding has remained stagnant. As a local business we want to do as much as we can to ensure the charity can continue to offer these services.’

David Macdonald, Community Development Worker at The Whitburn Community Development Trust adds ‘We appreciate the generosity of the Window Supply Company team completing the sponsored cycle from Lapland to raise vital funds for The Whitburn Community Development Trust. The funds raised will go a long way to ensure our projects can continue to reach and support as many people as possible within our town.’
